JAPAN
Japan has 100 volt electricity, meaning unless your computer or appliance is designed for 100 volts, you will need a Japan transformer. The cycles (Hz) are 50 or 60 per second, depending on the area of Japan. (See below.)

Japan may be the only country in the world where both 50 and 60 Hz are used. Here is the official explanation from The Tokyo Electric and Power Company. (TEPCO):
"There are 50 Hertz and 60 Hertz areas in Japan. The motor that generates electricity was first imported in the Meiji Era. At that time, the 50 Hertz operator was imported from Germany for the Kanto area and the 60 Hertz operator was imported from America for the Kansai area. From then until now, the dividing line has been drawn from about the Fuji River in Shizuoka upwards to the Itoi River in Niigata; on the east side of the dividing line 50 Hertz is used, whereas on the west side 60 Hertz is used." Larger city breakerdown: 50 Hz: Tokyo, Sapporo, Yokohoma; 60 Hz: Hiroshima, Kyoto, Osaka.
