Santa's Sarcophagus
Saint Nicholas' original
resting place was in the stone coffin at the bottom of the picture.
(If you visit the church, Santa's sarcophagus is to the right, just after you
enter.)
Around 1100 his remains were stolen and moved to Bari, Italy. A few were
recovered, however, and now
rest in the museum in Antalya. The church walls are filled with
4th century frescoes of various icons, including Saint Nick. That's him
to the left of the arch. There is an annual three
day festival celebrating St. Nicholas on December
6th.
