Our recommendation for lodging is The Hibernia House Hostel on Depiro Street in Sliema. (A suburb of Valletta.) The best value around, the hostel is a converted college dorm, and offers everything from bunk beds to private apartments complete with bath, bed, and kitchen. The picture looks out the window down Depiro Street. (Yes, that's a pub across the street.) There are small grocery stores on either side of the hostel. (The grocer on the left as you exit the hostel has fresh Maltese bread every morning.) Prices vary with the season and length of stay. (1/2 price for six weeks or more.) About $20/night for a furnished apartment and less than half that for the dorms. We actually came up with the idea for Walkabout Travel Gear and began to organize the company during a six week stay at the Hibernia House.
