Chinese Survival Tool

We're not sure why they're called "Chinese Survival Tools." They're made in China, but it must be more than that. Perhaps they were essential during The Long March. In any case, they're tiny, very inexpensive, and very, very useful. They can be used as a knife, ruler, can opener, bottle cap lifter, wrench, screwdriver, and file. Weighing about 1 1/5 ounce, and measuring 2 3/4" by 1 1/2" x 1/16", the Chinese Survival Tool should be an essential item in your passport holder. That way your tools are at hand for emergencies -- especially the bottle opener. Made of stainless steel, and comes with a leatherette case. (We recommend not carrying the Chinese Survival Tool in your passport holder until you have cleared airport metal detectors!)

The high-tech version of the Chinese Survival Tool, it is constructed of Zytel (fiberglass reinforced nylon) and mirror polished stainless steel. Shoe Goo

New and improved. Carry a half-empty (if you're weight conscious) tube of Shoe-Goo. It will repair just about anything. It's a great glue in general, plus it can restore broken pack frames when reinforced with a dental floss wrapping, bond broken cast aluminum parts, fix leaks in canteens, and holes in torn tents, packs, or pants. It will plug punctured oil lines, restore insulation on electrical wires, mend your umbrella, and it's even good for a hole in a shoe. Duct tape has its moments, but it's no contest when it comes to Shoe-Goo when you're walking about. (Shoe-Goo cannot be shipped internationally.)
