ROCK TOMBS OF MYRA

Carved out of rock cliffs, these Lycian tombs are truely impressive. (Admission the usual 50,000 lira.) Locals told us that the tombs were inhabitated until earlier in the century -- jokingly added they were the only place you could escape the mosquitoes. You're not suppose to climb on the tombs, but you'll find many do, and that local children apparently have their clubhouses in some. (Turkey is so full of ruins the locals often take them for granted.) An impressive ancient amphitheater (not shown) lies to the right.
