About Walkabout Travel Gear
We founded Walkabout Travel Gear in Salt Lake City in 1995, when buying travel gear online was still a new idea. We became one of the early online travel-gear retailers, selling practical equipment for independent travelers and building guides to explain the details that could make or break a trip.
Over the years, Walkabout grew from an online store into a travel reference built from decades of real experience. The retail business is gone, but the useful parts remain: country-by-country adapter information, plain-language electrical advice, travel-gear recommendations, and the history of the company.
The site focuses on problems travelers actually run into—whether a plug will fit, whether an appliance can handle the local voltage, what kind of adapter or adaptor is needed, and which travel products are worth carrying.
Walkabout Travel Gear operates independently. Some links are affiliate links, but the site is not owned, operated, or controlled by any manufacturer, retailer, or service provider. Walkabout Travel Gear is, in fact, just Brad working at his computer.
