Johnston Atoll is an unincorporated territory of the United States located in the central Pacific Ocean about 1,300 kilometers southwest of Hawaii. The atoll consists of several small islands surrounding a lagoon and has been used in the past for military activities and environmental cleanup operations. Today Johnston Atoll is uninhabited and part of the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument.
