South Africa Type M Travel Adapter (BS 546 16A)
South Africa uses the grounded Type M plug, which has three large round pins arranged in a triangular pattern. Type M is also used in India and several countries in southern Africa.
A South Africa travel adapter, also spelled South Africa travel adaptor, Type M travel adapter, or BS 546 16A adaptor plug, changes the plug shape only. It does not convert voltage.
This grounded South Africa plug adapter accepts plug styles from most countries. Type M plugs do not fit its input, and Type E/F Schuko-style plugs will not be grounded.

South Africa Electrical Outlets, Plugs, and Travel Adapters
South Africa uses the grounded Type M plug with three large round pins. A South Africa power adapter or plug adapter changes another plug configuration to the Type M shape. South Africa also uses other plug systems, so the adapter must match the electrical outlet being used.
For complete country information, see the South Africa plug and adapter guide.
Grounding and Voltage
Type M is a grounded plug system. Equipment that requires grounding needs a grounded Type M adapter. The device must also be rated for the local voltage.
Countries Where Type M Is Used
Type M is used in the countries listed above. Some countries also use other plug types, and Type M may be limited to particular outlets or higher-current installations. Adapter may also be spelled adaptor, and grounded may also be described as earthed.
