Christmas Island uses mains electricity supplied at 240 volts at 50 Hz. Wall outlets in Christmas Island use Type I, the same plug used in Australia and New Zealand and often called the Australian plug.

We checked this independently: the Australian Government's own Department of Infrastructure page for Christmas Island states electricity there is "consumer voltage 240V 50hz," generated locally by diesel plants on the island rather than drawn from the mainland grid. Because Christmas Island runs its own isolated supply, this page uses 240V rather than assuming the mainland figure applies.

Do I need a voltage converter for Christmas Island?
Only if your device isn't dual voltage. Most phones, laptops, and cameras are rated for 100–240V and only need a plug adapter for Christmas Island's Type I outlets. High-wattage single-voltage appliances, like hair dryers, straighteners, or some CPAP machines, need a voltage converter, not just an adapter. Can I use my US phone charger in Christmas Island?
