The electrical system operates at 230 volts with a frequency of 50 Hz. The Isle of Man uses British-standard Type G (BS 1363) electrical outlets for general power, the same three-pin standard used in the UK. Bathrooms also commonly have low-power shaver sockets built for the small British-style shaver plug; many units' contacts are also shaped to take the two-pin Europlug, though that isn't the recommended fit. Travelers from regions that use different plug types need a travel adapter for Type G; equipment that is not dual voltage requires an appropriate voltage converter.

The Isle of Man uses Type G as its everyday outlet, along with low-power shaver sockets commonly found in bathrooms for razors and electric toothbrushes. The Type G prong on the adapter above covers the outlets used to charge devices and power everyday electronics. Shaver sockets are built for the British-style shaver plug. On many units the same two contacts are shaped to also take the narrower two-pin Europlug, but that isn't the recommended fit. A US-style flat-pin plug does not fit a British shaver socket at all; travelers with a US-style device should plug into a regular Type G outlet with the adapter above instead of the shaver socket.

Do I need a voltage converter for the Isle of Man?
Only if your device isn't dual voltage. Most phones, laptops, and cameras are rated for 100–240V and only need a plug adapter for the Isle of Man's outlets. High-wattage single-voltage appliances, like hair dryers, straighteners, or some CPAP machines, need a voltage converter, not just an adapter. Check the device label for its voltage rating before you travel.
Can I use my US phone charger on the Isle of Man?
Phone and laptop chargers use a universal 100–240V power supply, so yours will work on the Isle of Man's 230V supply without a separate converter. You'll still need a plug adapter, since the charger's US plug won't physically fit the Isle of Man's outlets.
Are Isle of Man and US power outlets interchangeable?
No. The Isle of Man uses Type G outlets and the US uses Type A/B. The plug shapes are different, and the Isle of Man runs at 230V compared to 120V in the US, so a plug adapter alone is only safe for devices that already support both voltages.
