Taiwan Travel Adapters
Type A & Type B • 110 volts • 60 Hz
Taiwan's relationship with mainland China dates to 1949, when Nationalist forces under Chiang Kai-shek retreated to the island after losing the Chinese Civil War, while the Communist Party established the People's Republic of China on the mainland. Taiwan today has its own constitution and elected government and governs itself independently, while Beijing considers it a province that should eventually be reunified with the mainland.
Taiwan is an island country in East Asia. The capital city is Taipei, and the country is known for its modern cities, mountainous terrain, and vibrant night markets. Popular attractions include Taipei 101, Taroko Gorge, and Sun Moon Lake. Taiwan offers a mix of urban experiences, natural landscapes, and cultural attractions.
Taiwan uses mains electricity supplied at 110 volts at 60 Hz, the same as the United States. Wall outlets use Type A and Type B plugs. Travelers from regions that use different plug types should bring a compatible travel adapter. Visitors should confirm that their electronic devices support 100–240V input or use an appropriate voltage converter if necessary.

Do I need a voltage converter for Taiwan?
No converter is needed for most devices. Taiwan runs on 110V at 60 Hz, the same as the United States, so US phone, laptop, and camera chargers work without a voltage converter. You may still need a plug adapter if your plug shape doesn't match Taiwan's Type A or Type B outlets.
Can I use my US phone charger in Taiwan?
Yes. Taiwan's 110V, 60 Hz supply matches the United States, so a US charger works as is. US plugs are also Type A or Type B, the same types used in Taiwan, so in most cases no adapter is needed at all.
Are Taiwan and US power outlets interchangeable?
Yes, in almost all cases. Taiwan and the US both use Type A and Type B outlets at 110V, 60 Hz, so US devices and plugs typically work in Taiwan without an adapter or converter.
Does Taiwan use more than one plug type?
Yes. Taiwan uses two plug types: Type A, an ungrounded two flat-pin plug, and Type B, the same shape with an added grounding pin. A Type B adapter will also fit Type A sockets, so either one will work throughout the country.
