Greece Travel Adapters

Type C & Type F • 230 volts • 50 Hz

Greece is a country in southeastern Europe located at the southern end of the Balkan Peninsula. The capital city is Athens. Greece is known for its ancient history, archaeological sites, and islands scattered across the Aegean and Ionian seas. The country played a central role in the development of Western civilization, including early democracy, philosophy, and theater.

Greece uses mains electricity supplied at 230 volts at 50 Hz. Wall outlets use Type C and Type F. Travelers from regions that use different plug types need a travel adapter for Type C or Type F; equipment that is not dual voltage requires an appropriate voltage converter.

Adapter may also be spelled adaptor. Converter may be spelled convertor. Grounded may also be described as earthed.
Greece uses Type C and Type F outlets nationwide. An adapter rated for Type F will also fit Type C sockets. Type F adapters are also known as Schuko style.

Greece Travel Adapter FAQ

Do I need a voltage converter for Greece?

Only if your device isn't dual voltage. Most phones, laptops, and cameras are rated for 100–240V and only need a plug adapter for Greece's outlets. High-wattage single-voltage appliances, like hair dryers, straighteners, or some CPAP machines, need a voltage converter, not just an adapter. Check the device label for its voltage rating before you travel.

Can I use my US phone charger in Greece?

Most modern phone and laptop chargers are rated for 100–240V, so they work on Greece's 230V supply without a separate converter. You'll still need a plug adapter, since the charger's US plug won't physically fit Greece's outlets.

Are Greece and US power outlets interchangeable?

No. Greece uses Type C and Type F outlets and the US uses Type A/B. The plug shapes are different, and Greece runs at 230V compared to 120V in the US, so a plug adapter alone is only safe for devices that already support both voltages.

Does Greece use more than one plug type?

Yes. Greece uses two plug types: Type C, a two round-pin Europlug, and Type F, a grounded Schuko-style plug with two earthing clips. An adapter rated for Type F will also fit Type C sockets, so either one will work throughout the country.
