Melilla Travel Adapters
Type C and Type F • 230 volts • 50 Hz
Spain has held Melilla continuously since 1497, when its forces occupied the city in what the historical record describes as a nearly bloodless takeover. That makes it one of Europe's longest-held overseas territories, predating Spain's conquest of most of the Americas. Morocco still disputes Spanish sovereignty over the enclave, but Spain treats it as an integral part of the country, roughly 528 years and counting.
Melilla is an autonomous city of Spain on the north coast of Africa, separated from Morocco only by a fortified border.
Melilla uses mains electricity supplied at 230 volts at 50 Hz, the same standard used throughout mainland Spain. Wall outlets use Type C and Type F plugs. Travelers from regions that use different plug types should bring a compatible travel adapter. Visitors should confirm that their electronic devices support 100–240V input or use an appropriate voltage converter if necessary.

Do I need a voltage converter for Melilla?
Only if your device isn't dual voltage. Most phones, laptops, and cameras are rated for 100–240V and only need a plug adapter for outlets in Melilla. High-wattage single-voltage appliances, like hair dryers, straighteners, or some CPAP machines, need a voltage converter, not just an adapter. Check the device label for its voltage rating before you travel.
Can I use my US phone charger in Melilla?
Most modern phone and laptop chargers are rated for 100–240V, so they work on the 230V supply used in Melilla without a separate converter. You'll still need a plug adapter, since the charger's US plug won't physically fit the local outlets.
Are Melilla and US power outlets interchangeable?
No. Melilla uses Type C and Type F outlets and the US uses Type A/B. The plug shapes are different, and the local supply runs at 230V compared to 120V in the US, so a plug adapter alone is only safe for devices that already support both voltages.
Does Melilla use more than one plug type?
Yes. Melilla uses two plug types: Type C and Type F. An adapter rated for Type F will also fit Type C sockets. Type F adapters are also known as Schuko style.
