Vietnam Travel Adapters

Type A, Type B, and Type C • 230 volts • 50 Hz

Vietnam has been the world's top cashew exporter for more than 15 years, supplying roughly 80% of the global cashew trade. Since its cashew association was founded in 1990, the industry has earned more than $31 billion in cumulative exports. It's a striking footprint for a country better known internationally for coffee, rice, and street food.

Vietnam is a country in Southeast Asia. The capital city is Hanoi, and the country is known for its diverse landscapes, historic sites, and vibrant culture. Popular attractions include Ha Long Bay, the Old Quarter of Hanoi, and the Mekong Delta. Vietnam offers a mix of natural landscapes, cultural heritage, and urban experiences.

Vietnam uses mains electricity supplied at 230 volts at 50 Hz. Wall outlets use Type A, Type B and Type C plugs. Travelers from regions that use different plug types should bring a compatible travel adapter. Visitors should confirm that their electronic devices support 100–240V input or use an appropriate voltage converter if necessary.

Vietnam Travel Adapter FAQ

Do I need a voltage converter for Vietnam?

Only if your device isn't dual voltage. Most phones, laptops, and cameras are rated for 100–240V and only need a plug adapter for Vietnam's outlets. High-wattage single-voltage appliances, like hair dryers, straighteners, or some CPAP machines, need a voltage converter, not just an adapter. Check the device label for its voltage rating before you travel.

Can I use my US phone charger in Vietnam?

Many Vietnamese outlets accept US-style flat two-pin (Type A) plugs directly, so your charger may plug in without an adapter at all. Even so, confirm it's rated for 100–240V, since Vietnam's 230V supply is roughly double the 120V standard used in the US.

Are Vietnam and US power outlets interchangeable?

Partially. Vietnam's Type A outlets use the same flat two-pin plug shape as the US, so many US chargers fit without an adapter. But Vietnam runs on 230V compared to 120V in the US, so only confirmed dual-voltage devices (100–240V) are safe to use without a separate voltage converter.

Does Vietnam use more than one plug type?

Yes. Vietnam uses three plug types: Type A, an ungrounded two flat-pin plug identical to the US standard; Type B, the grounded version of the same plug with an added round pin; and Type C, the two round-pin Europlug common throughout Europe and Asia.
