Borneo Travel Adapters

Borneo is the third-largest island in the world and lies in Southeast Asia between the South China Sea and the Celebes Sea. The island is politically divided among three countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, and the small nation of Brunei. Much of Borneo is covered by dense tropical rainforest and it is known for its remarkable biodiversity, including orangutans, proboscis monkeys, and many unique plant and animal species. Major cities on the island include Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, and Bandar Seri Begawan.

Electric power systems across Borneo vary by region, reflecting the island’s division between different national electrical standards. Wall outlets encountered on the island include Type A, Type B, Type C, Type F, and Type G sockets. Travelers should bring a compatible travel adapter that supports these plug types. As with most international travel, visitors should confirm that their electronic devices accept a wide voltage range (typically 100–240V) or use an appropriate voltage converter if necessary.

Plug types are listed because they are encountered in at least some installations. Presence may be partial, legacy, mixed, or situational. A travel adapter, also spelled travel adaptor, changes plug fit only; a voltage converter, sometimes searched as a voltage convertor, is needed only for devices that are not dual voltage. No plug type is excluded due to limited or declining use. Type F adapters are also known as Schuko style.
