Jordan is known for historic and archaeological sites including Petra, the ancient Nabataean city carved into rock, and the desert landscapes of Wadi Rum.
Jordan uses mains electricity supplied at 230 volts at 50 Hz. Wall outlets use Type C, Type D, Type F, and Type G. Travelers from regions that use different plug types need a travel adapter for one of these four types; equipment that is not dual voltage requires an appropriate voltage converter.

Do I need a voltage converter for Jordan?
Only if your device isn't dual voltage. Most phones, laptops, and cameras are rated for 100–240V and only need a plug adapter for Jordan's outlets. High-wattage single-voltage appliances, like hair dryers, straighteners, or some CPAP machines, need a voltage converter, not just an adapter. Check the device label for its voltage rating before you travel.
Can I use my US phone charger in Jordan?
Most modern phone and laptop chargers are rated for 100–240V, so they work on Jordan's 230V supply without a separate converter. You'll still need a plug adapter, since the charger's US plug won't physically fit Jordan's outlets.
Are Jordan and US power outlets interchangeable?
No. Jordan uses Type C, Type D, Type F, and Type G outlets and the US uses Type A/B. The plug shapes are different, and Jordan runs at 230V compared to 120V in the US, so a plug adapter alone is only safe for devices that already support both voltages.
Why does Jordan use four different plug types?
Jordan's outlets reflect a mix of electrical standards adopted over different eras: Type C, a two round-pin Europlug, Type F, a grounded Schuko-style plug with earthing clips, Type G, the rectangular three-pin British plug, and Type D, an older three round-pin plug still found in some older buildings in Amman. Because the pin shapes aren't interchangeable, a universal adapter is the simplest way to be covered at any outlet you encounter.
