Oceania Travel Adapter: Down Under and Out in the Pacific

Oceania is mostly one plug. Australia, New Zealand, and most of the South Pacific share Type I, the US Pacific islands use the same plugs as home, and the French islands bring their own. One universal adapter covers every place on this page.

The Short Answer

  • Type I plug drawing
Australia, New Zealand, and most of the South Pacific use Type I.
  • Type A plug drawing
From the US: Guam, Palau, Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa use Type A and Type B at 110–120V. No adapter needed there.
  • Type C plug drawing
The French islands (French Polynesia, Tahiti, and New Caledonia) use Type C and Type E/F.
  • Easiest: the Ceptics adapter covers Type A, C, and I, which is every place on this page.
  • Type B plug drawing
Visiting the US Pacific islands from Europe with grounded Type E/F (Schuko) plugs: bring a grounded Type E/F to Type B adapter. Everyone else: bring a Type B adapter.
  • Voltage: 220–240V across most of Oceania. The US Pacific islands use 110–120V, and Wake Island has no public power grid. A plug adapter does not convert voltage. See voltage below.

One Adapter for All of Oceania

Visiting from Europe? Grounded Type E/F to Type B

Everyone Else: Type B Adapter

The Type B adapter shown here accepts plug styles from most countries. South African Type M plugs do not fit. Grounded Type E and Type F (Schuko) plugs do not fit either. Use the Europe adapter above.

Voltage in Oceania

110–120V: American Samoa, Guam, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, the Northern Mariana Islands, and Palau.

220–240V: Australia, Christmas Island, Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Norfolk Island, Papua New Guinea, Pitcairn Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu. A 120V-only device needs a voltage converter in these places unless it is dual voltage.

See the voltage guide and dual-voltage appliances before you pack the hair dryer.

Adapter may also be spelled adaptor, and grounded may also be described as earthed. See all international plug types.
